Have you ever thought of downtown Sacramento as your blank canvas?
That’s the concept behind Sacramento United Park(ing) Day 2016.
“What Park(ing) Day is all about is taking parallel parking stalls and turning them into mini parks for a day to promote the idea that urban spaces can be more pedestrian friendly,” said organizer and Stantec Landscape Architect, Dalton LaVoie.
On Friday, along 9th Street from J to K Streets, parking spots were transformed into grass to bounce on and a place to play the piano.
LaVoie said this is an international event that hopes to encourage creativity and spark a conversation about what to do with public spaces downtown.
This happened the same day the Jeff Koons’ Coloring Book #4 was installed outside the new Golden 1 Center.
A sign things are changing downtown, which is part of what the event hopes to promote a conversation about.
