"This wasn't how it was supposed to end."

That was the first thing that came out of second year head coach Jon Gilliam's mouth after his Argonaut boys basketball team fell short of a Division V state championship, 78-66 on Saturday.

The NorCal champion Mustangs went in to their matchup with the top-seed in the SoCal region, Santa Clarity Christian, with confidence that started to fade away in the final minutes of the game. "Destiny" was the theme for this small town squad that will be returning 10 players to the roster.

Argonaut was led by senior Adison Cramer who had a game highs in scoring and rebounds with 29 points and 10 boards. Fellow senior Jared Votaw added 11 points but the Mustangs could not stop SCC's Justin Collins and Jordan Starr who combined for 42 points.

Junior big man Seth Tomczak finished with 12 points but found himself in foul trouble in the first half. After Tomczak went to the bench, SCC went on an 18-5 run to close out the first half with a 41-25 lead.

The Mustangs cut the lead to 10 with just over two minutes to play but ultimately Argonaut falls short of fulfilling what the team believed to be its destiny... This year.
