Five local teams fall short of NorCal Regional Championships

Folsom and Placer will be the only teams representing the area after the remaining five Sac-Joaquin Section champions have their seasons come to an end in NorCal Regional Bowl Games.

Sac-Joaquin Section champions went 0-5 in Saturday's NorCal Regional Championship games.

In Division 1-A, Granite Bay failed to come back from a 17-0 halftime deficit against Bay area power Pittsburg at home. The Pirates handed the Grizzlies a 37-14 loss to claim the NorCal Regional Championship. Granite Bay finishes the season with a 12-3 record.

The Manteca Buffaloes also close out their season with a 12-3 record after dropping their home matchup in the Division 2-A Regional Championship game against Saint Francis of Mountain View. The Lancers came away with a 28-23 victory.

Rio Vista scored all of its points in the third quarter in a 20-14 home loss to San Francisco's Galileo in the Division 6-A Regional Championship.

Sutter and Bear River also dropped their games on the road at Half Moon Bay and Fortuna, respectively. The Huskies were shut out in three quarters of a 28-7 loss in the Division 3-A NorCal game while the Bruins fell short in the 5-2 Division with a 34-20 loss.

Folsom will return to Sacramento State's Hornet Stadium to face Helix of La Mesa for the 1-AA CIF State Championship on Friday, December 15, at 8 p.m. Placer will take on Los Angeles power Crenshaw on Saturday, December 16, at 6 p.m. at a site yet to be determined by the CIF. This will be the first State Championship appearance for the Hillmen since 1980.
