1 dead, 2 wounded in Sacramento drive-by shooting

One man is dead and two others were injured in a drive-by shooting in a southeastern Sacramento neighborhood late Friday night.

A man in his 30s was pronounced dead in the backyard of a home in the 7000 block of Rock Creek Way. The two other victims, who were inside of the home at the time of the shooting, suffered non-life threatening injuries and were taken to a hospital to get treatment, Sacramento Police Officer Michele Gigante said. No other information about the victims was released.

According to a preliminary investigation, the victims and several other people were celebrating a family event inside the garage when multiple shots were fired into the partially open garage door. Gigante said the male suspect drove up to the home, got out of the car and then opened fire. He then got back into the car and drove away from the scene.

Gigante said homicide investigators continue to investigate the shooting with help from gang unit detectives. She said the motive behind the shooting is unclear.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to call the Sacramento Police Department at (916) 264-5471 or Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP (4357). Information can also be texted to 274637 (CRIMES) - enter SACTIP followed by the tip information. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
