SACRAMENTO - Police are searching for a driver of a van involved in a hit-and-run crash that killed a motorcyclist Tuesday night.
Police got reports of the crash at 9:10 p.m. Paramedics arrived at Del Paso Boulevard and tried to treat the injured rider, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
After the crash, the driver of the van got out and ran from the area.
Sacramento police officer Michele Gigante said police would appreciate any information witnesses might be able to provide and would like to hear from anyone who may know the driver of the van. Investigators are using the license plate number to track down who owns the van.
"When that van pulled over, the driver fled on foot. So we'll be looking into who that driver is. We'll be finding any witnesses, looking at any video in the area and doing our investigation," Gigante said.
The northbound lanes of Del Paso Boulevard were expected to be closed for several hours.
Police do not have a description of the suspect. Forensics experts were going over the inside of the van and looking for fingerprints and other evidence.
