Sexual assault attempt in Rancho Cordova reported

A woman was thrown to the ground and attacked in a sexual assault attempt in broad daylight in Rancho Cordova on Feb. 3. Sacramento County sheriff's investigators now have a sketch of the assailant, and they hope someone will recognize him.

The attack took place at 10:50 a.m. Monday in the area of Mills Park Drive and Silverwood Way, Sgt. Lisa Bowman said. The woman was walking to her gym when a man assaulted her. She was able to fight him off and flee, Bowman said.

The attacker was described as a black man, between 19 and 22 years old, 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing about 200 pounds. His victim said he wore a black, hooded sweatshirt; black shirt; gray sweatpants and bright red/orange tennis shoes. He carried a black backpack.
