Kings news: Fredette and Cousins

The Sacramento Kings and Jimmer Fredette have parted ways, agreeing to a buyout of the third-year guard's contract.

Fredette was taken by the Kings as the overall 10th pick in the 2011 NBA draft. This season, in 41 games coming off the bench, Fredette averaged 5.9 points, 1.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 11.3 minutes per game.

Earlier Thursday, the NBA suspended Kings center DeMarcus Cousins for one game and fined him $20,000 for punching an opposing player and verbally abusing an official in a game earlier this week.

Cousins punched Houston Rockets guard Patrick Beverley in the stomach with 9:44 remaining in the first quarter of the Kings' 129-103 loss Tuesday night.

The fine was leveled for verbally abusing a game official and failing to leave the court in a timely manner following an ejection with 8:21 remaining in the third quarter.

Cousins will serve his suspension Friday when the Kings visit the Los Angeles Lakers.
