SACRAMENTO – Police officers were called to the 7200 block of Gloria Dr. around 12:37 a.m. Saturday after an individual informed them their neighbor had been shot.
According to Sacramento police spokeswoman Michelle Gigante, the caller said the 19-year-old woman had knocked on their door for help after being shot. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the woman in need of immediate medical attention for a gunshot wound to the face.
Fire department personnel transported the critically injured woman to the hospital where she died on Monday, March 17, 2014.
Due to the seriousness of the victim's injury, homicide detectives and crime scene investigators responded to scene the day of the incident to assist with the investigation, Gigante said.
Preliminary results of the ensuing investigation led detectives to believe that an altercation between known subjects occurred just prior to the shooting. The woman was shot one time in the face by a possibly known suspect who then ran from the scene. Detectives do not believe the incident was random but they did not have a specific motive as of Thursday morning.
No arrests have been made in the ongoing investigation.
