30 to 40 displaced after Vallejo residential hotel fire

VALLEJO, Calif. (AP) — Fire officials say a residential hotel in Northern California has gone up in flames, leaving 30 to 40 residents displaced.

KTVU-TV reports (http://bit.ly/2mwcBye) that the fire broke out at the Travel Inn in Vallejo on Sunday.

Vallejo fire spokesman Danny Gutierrez says residents were able to escape the burning building, but a cat died in the fire.

Three people were treated for smoke inhalation.

Investigators suspect the fire started in one of the hotel rooms. Gutierrez says the flames reached a balcony on an upper level where a fuel can was being stored, causing the fire to spread rapidly.

The Red Cross is assisting those who have been displaced.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
