Attempted traffic stop leads to CHP officer-involved shooting in Dixon

SACRAMENTO - A California Highway Patrol officer shot a suspect in Dixon Monday evening, according to authorities.

Officers on scene said the CHP was looking for a man wanted for assault with a deadly weapon in Sacramento. They had been alerted the suspect was driving a pickup truck reported stolen out of Concord.

Officers saw the pickup in question on Interstate 80 in the Kidwell Road area of Dixon and attempted to make a traffic stop.

The driver instead charged at officers, according to preliminary information, and they opened fire.

The suspect was reportedly shot once. CHP spokesperson Officer Daniel Hill said the man was taken to a local hospital. His condition was unknown.

No CHP officers were injured.

The incident was first reported at 7:55 p.m.

Eastbound I-80 at Pedrick Road was still closed for the shooting investigation as of 10:15 p.m.
