Sheriff investigates Nevada City homicide

NEVADA CITY, Calif. - Sheriff's investigators are saying little as they look into the circumstances surrounding the death of a man in his 40s in Nevada City late Monday night.

Nevada County Sheriff Keith Royal said deputies were sent to check on a fight on the 1100 block of Forest View Drive in response to a 911 call made at approximately 11:13 p.m.

When deputies arrived, they reported finding an unconscious man lying in a home's driveway. Paramedics also responded. Royal said the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The death is being considered a homicide, Royal said.

Neighbors were shocked to hear of the violent crime. They said a retired woman lives there with her grown son.

"Nice family. He had a little girl that lived with him and he lived there with his mom," a neighbor said. "I would never expect [anything] like this."

News10 tried getting a hold of someone inside the house, but no one came to the door.

Royal said his investigators were interviewing witnesses and are following up on several leads. The sheriff's search and rescue team and the California Department of Justice were providing assistance.
