Suspected thief arrested after crashing stolen motorcycle in Auburn

SACRAMENTO – A man suspected of stealing a motorcycle and burglarizing a home in Auburn was located and arrested after crashing the stolen bike Monday.

Sergeant Gary Hopping of the Auburn Police Department said officers responded to a report of a motorcycle crash on Mikkelsen Dr. around 2:55 p.m. Witnesses at the scene said the rider ran from the scene toward Interstate 80 after the crash.

Upon arrival, deputies from the Placer County Sheriff's Office and an officer from the California Department of Forestry began a search for the rider.

Auburn police officers eventually located Shane Wilson, 29, of Foresthill at a business on Hilltop Dr., Hopping said.

During the ensuing investigation, it was revealed that the motorcycle was stolen from a residence on Mikkelsen Dr. and that location had also been burglarized, according to Hopping.

Wilson was arrested for vehicle theft and residential burglary. He was booked into the Placer County Jail and held on bail of $75,000.
