8 firefighters battling Lodge Fire treated for burns

LAYTONVILLE (AP) - Cal Fire said eight injured firefighters that were admitted into a hospital Friday night were released early Saturday morning.

The eight firefighters suffered first- and second- degree burns while fighting the Lodge Fire in Mendocino County Friday night. They were airlifted to the UC Davis Medical Center's burn center for treatment.

Cal Fire spokesperson Lynne Tolmachoff said five CAL FIRE/California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Salt Creek inmate firefighters and three Santa Clara County Fire Department firefighters were injured.

Tolmachoff said no details were immediately available on how the firefighters were injured.

Officials said an evacuation order is has been issued for the fire which is threatening about 35 homes. The Lodge Fire, started by lighting on July 30, has burned more than 11 square miles and is 30 percent contained.
