LA County freeway closed after fiery crash

SOUTH EL MONTE, Calif. (AP) - All lanes of a Los Angeles County freeway are shut down following a fiery multi-vehicle crash that resulted in several injuries.

California Highway Patrol Officer Francisco Villalobos says the accident early Thursday on State Route 60 involved a tanker truck that crossed over the center divider.

He says up to eight vehicles were involved in the crash, and at least two caught fire.

Several people were transported to hospitals, but the exact number and the extent of their injuries wasn't immediately known.

Villalobos says the truck carrying milk was traveling eastbound in South El Monte when it hit the divider and overturned, spilling fuel into lanes.

Milk was spilled into westbound lanes. All lanes in both directions are expected to remain closed for some time.

South El Monte is about 15 miles east of downtown Los Angeles.
