Officials say a 44-year-old California Highway Patrol officer was struck and killed while riding his motorcycle to work in Northern California.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports the officer, who was not identified, died Tuesday when for an unknown reason 47-year-old Joseph Ketchum turned his pickup truck directly into the path of his motorcycle.
The CHP says the motorcyclist slammed into the right front side of the pickup truck. The off-duty officer was pronounced dead at the scene.
The CHP is investigating and says alcohol and drugs were not suspected in the collision.
The Santa Clara County coroner did not release the officer's name, pending notification of his family.
