The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food and Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has announced a recall of 1,076 pounds of ready-to-eat salami and speck products that may have been contaminated with Salmonella.
Piller's Fine Foods makes the product that was shipped to California, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey and New York.
The recall includes:
- Vacuum-sealed random weight plastic packages containing “Black Kassel Piller’s Dry Aged D’Amour Salami” with Best Before date of May 12, 2018.
- Vacuum-sealed random weight plastic packages containing “Black Kassel Piller’s Dry Aged Speck Smoked Prosciutto” with Best Before date of May 12, 2018.
Consuming salmonella can cause a common foodbourne illness known as salmonellosis. Common symptoms include:
- Abdominal cramps
- Fever within 12 to 72 hours after eating the contaminated product
While most people recover without treatment, some older adults, infants, and people with weak immune systems may develop a severe illness.
If you experience any of these symptoms contact your doctor.
Currently, there are no confirmed reports of anyone getting sick from the recalled products.
Anyone who has bought these products are urged to not use them. They should be thrown away or returned to the store they were purchased from.
