Rescue crews look for missing aircraft southwest of Lake Tahoe

The California Wing of the Civil Air Patrol, Tyndall Air Force Base and the El Dorado County Sheriff's Department have all sent search and rescue crews to find a plane that is overdue to land.

The single-pilot Cessna was returning to Sacramento from Idaho when it was reported overdue. The last known position of the plane was southwest of Lake Tahoe in a rural area of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

Search and rescue officials are setting up both ground and air teams to look for the missing plane.

"Were keeping our fingers crossed and hoping for the weather to clear," said Col John Stokes, public affairs officer with the Civil Air Patrol.

Search crews with the sheriff's department have called off looking for the missing plane until the weather clears.

No information on the identity of the missing pilot has been released.
