Davis mom guilty of daughter's murder by drowning

SACRAMENTO - A Davis woman has been found guilty of first-degree murder for the drowning her young daughter in September.

A Yolo County Superior Court jury on Friday convicted Aquelin Crystal Talamantes for the Sept. 26, 2013 death of 5-year-old Tatiana Garcia. She was also found guilty of assault on a child under the age of 8 resulting in death.

Talamantes had entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity. A competency hearing was set for Friday afternoon.

The victim was discovered by Sacramento police in the trunk of her mother's Honda at the Sacramento apartment of relatives.
