A Woodland K9 officer was seriously hurt after he struck a moving car while chasing a suspect, Woodland Police said.

Peydro is in critical condition, and is currently undergoing surgery for spinal and facial injuries.

According to Woodland Police, Peydro was with his K9 partner in the area of Cleveland and North Streets in Woodland early Saturday morning.

The officer saw a man, identified as 35-year-old Marcos Hernandez, who the officer knew was wanted for violating his parole. Hernandez fled on a bicycle when he was approached by an officer, police said.

While giving chase, Peydro ran into the side of a moving car on Walnut Street.

The driver remained at the scene, and is not expected to face any charges.

Peydro was taken to the UC Davis veterinary hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Hernandez later turned himself in to Woodland Police.

He was arrested and booked without bail at the Yolo County Jail, and is being charged for violation of parole and resisting, obstructing and delaying an officer.

People that want to donate to help with Peydro's medical costs can do so through the Foothills K9 Association here.
