Driver suspected of DUI in major injury El Dorado Hills crash

A 21-year-old El Dorado Hills man is being investigated for possible driving while drunk in a crash that left two passengers with major injuries Friday morning.

California Highway Patrol spokesperson Officer Quinn Cuthbertson says Jason Shaughnessy was behind the wheel of a 2000 Subaru on southbound Salmon Falls Road north of Falcon Crest Lane just before 8:30 a.m. when he lost control of the car and it left the roadway. The Outback overturned several times down a 60-foot embankment before stopping.

One rear seat passenger who was not wearing a seat belt was ejected and taken by air ambulance to a Roseville hospital with major injuries, Cuthbertson said. Another passenger in the rear seat was also badly hurt and transported to a Placerville hospital.

Two other passengers and Shaughnessy were not injured.

Shaughnessy was arrested and was being investigated for driving under the influence of alcohol, Cuthbertson said.
