Husband and wife killed in Lake Tahoe boat crash

A man and a woman died when their boat smashed into a dock pier piling in Lake Tahoe very early Sunday morning.

The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office said the pair were identified as Vadim Nikolskaya, 45, and his wife Tatiana Nikolskaya, 44, of San Ramon.

According to the sheriff's report, the collision took place just before 1:40 a.m. in the 7000 block of Emerald Bay Road along Meeks Bay. People sleeping on the dock were awakened by the impact which tore the hull of couple's 19-foot 1997 Glastron boat in half.

The Nikolskayas were killed at the scene.

The sheriff's office said the boat appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of impact.. Another preliminary finding was that drinking may have been a factor in the crash.
