A 26-year-old Placerville man was arrested in an online underage sex investigation.
According to Dena Erwin with the Placer County Sheriff's Office, Shawn Michael Roediger placed an advertisement online on July 29 seeking sex with a "young girl" he wanted for a "sex pet." The solicitation came to the attention of a sheriff's detective making a regular check of such kinds of digital traffic. The detective answered the ad, pretending to be a 13-year-old girl.
After online communication of a sexual nature between Roediger and the "girl" for one week, Erwin said detectives arrested the suspect at his home Monday night without incident. Roediger was booked into Placer County Jail on suspicion of attempted lewd and lascivious acts with a child; communicating with a minor for purposes of committing a sexual act; and distributing harmful matter to a minor.
Roediger remains jailed on $100,000 bail.
Erwin added these kinds of crimes are pretty easy to regularly find.
