Suspect arrested after hours long police standoff in Elk Grove

A man was arrested after a nearly 4-hour standoff with police in Elk Grove Wednesday evening.

The suspect refused to come out of a home on the 8800 block of Silverberry Avenue when officers arrived to serve a $500,000 felony warrant around 3 p.m., the Elk Grove Police Department said. The suspect was wanted on a felony domestic violence and assault with a deadly weapon warrant.

When officers arrived at the scene, several relatives were inside the home with the suspect. Police said they were able to get out of the home safely.

During the standoff, authorities tried to contact the suspect. He didn't reply to any of the officers' commands, but he was seen inside the home.

Around 7 p.m., officers found the suspect hiding in the trunk of a car in the garage. He was then taken into custody.
