Fairfield man arrested on molestation, kidnapping warrants

Fairfield police say they have taken a 35-year-old local man into custody on suspicion of child sex abuse and kidnapping.

Lt. Stephen Crane said detectives began investigating Scott Jones in response to an alleged molestation reported to them in March. Detectives also learned of a kidnapping, investigated by the California Highway Patrol, for which Jones was suspected of committing.

Arrest warrants were obtained and Wednesday, detectives arrested Jones at the Waterman Plaza parking lot in Fairfield.

The suspect faces allegations of committing lewd acts on a child under 14 years of age, oral copulation and kidnapping, Crane said.

The lieutenant added Jones is a convicted felon and has had previous contact with law enforcement for assault with a deadly weapon, vandalism, obstructing law enforcement and cruelty to animals.
