One person dead in Orangevale condominium fire

Firefighters found an elderly woman's body in a burning Orangevale condominium Friday afternoon.

Capt. Michelle Eidam with Sacramento Metro Fire District said a cat also didn't survive the fire.

The fire was on the 9300 block of River Oaks Lane. The first emergency calls were made at around 2:30 p.m. for smoke pouring out of attic vents.

Crews reported the residence was very cluttered, making it more difficult to do their jobs.

The victim's name was not released.

According to Eidam , arson investigators believe the cause of the fire was accidental. Improperly discarded smoking materials may be to blame.

Eidam also noted there appeared to be no working smoke alarms in the two-story home.
