The attorney representing Denise Huskins spoke on her behalf Thursday night.
"She is one hundred percent, positively a victim," Doug Rappaport said.
Huskins is at the center of a reported kidnapping and ransom case that began Monday when her boyfriend told Vallejo police she had been abducted. Huskins showed up Wednesday morning in Huntington Beach.
Rappaport was with Huskins as Vallejo detectives interviewed her Thursday morning and afternoon. He slammed the Vallejo Police Department which has described the incident as an "orchestrated event and not a kidnapping."
"This is no hoax. This is no laughing matter," Rappaport said. "She was a victim of a very serious assault. Like a number of women who have been victims."
Rappaport added, "They'll realize that there is a lot more to this case than it's a hoax. There was no request for anyone to pay any money."
When asked about the kidnappers, Rappaport said he could not comment about how and why the kidnappers released his client.
Rappaport described Huskins as emotionally and psychologically broken.
"The fact that she has been designated as a suspect only hurts her further."
He said his client is cooperating fully with law enforcement and hopes to clear her name.
