Marijuana grow house next to Manteca school searched

SACRAMENTO - A Manteca home converted to an indoor marijuana growing operation was raided by police Wednesday.

The house was less than 150 feet away from Stella Brockman Elementary School on Crom Drive.

Officers seized 328 pot plants, one pound of marijuana processed for sale and thousands of dollars from what was believed to be drug sales, Lt. Tony Souza said.

Pacific Gas and Utility was also called out to the house on the 1800 block because power to the residence had been illegally tapped, Souza said. The utility estimated the cost of the stolen electricity at $20,000.

Two men on the premises were arrested. They were Trieu Vo, 27, and Vinny Tran, 38, both of San Jose. Souza said they were booked into custody for marijuana cultivation, possession, keeping a place to sell controlled substances, and utility theft.

Additionally, Souza said Santa Clara County sheriff's detectives searched Vo's San Jose residence Wednesday evening and recovered six pounds of processed marijuana.

The estimated street value of the pot from both locations was pegged at $350,000 to $500,000.
