Firefighter rescues newborn kitten from collapsed home

Firefighters rescue lots of people, sure, but not just people.

In video posted to the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District Facebook page, firefighters were brought to a burning building in Modesto Monday, which they believed to be vacant.

It wasn’t. Not entirely, anyway.

The home was completely ablaze by the time crews arrived and the roof had already collapsed, officials said.

As crews battled the blaze, one firefighter is recorded rescuing a newborn kitten from the sub-floor vent of the 3,000 square-foot building.

The firefighter is shown bringing the kitten to a pet oxygen mask, which covered the tiny animal’s head almost entirely.

The kitten was treated and was eventually reunited with its mother and siblings, officials report.

No people (nor animals) were injured, crews said.
