An Inderkum High School student, who brought a loaded gun to campus, was arrested after a struggle Thursday.
Administrators searched the 11th grader after receiving an anonymous tip around 11 a.m., according to Natomas Unified School District spokesman Jim Sanders.
Sanders said that a campus resource officer went to the student’s classroom and escorted him to a private area to search him.
"The officer found a loaded handgun in the student’s possession after a struggle," said Lt. Bryce Heinlein of the Sacramento Police Department.
The 16-year-old was taken to juvenile hall on charges of firearm violation and resisting arrest. The school was not placed on lockdown.
Mike Moyer, an Inderkum teacher, called the incident 'a symptom of a much bigger issue" in the district. He criticized the administration for not locking down the campus when they learned of the gun.
Lt. Heinlein declined to say why the student had the gun, citing an ongoing investigation.
