Sacramento Regional Transit had a busy weekend.
The RT transported nearly 10,000 people, close to 19,000 trips, for Friday and Sunday into downtown, with a significant portion of those riders being NCAA attendees and out-of-town guests, in addition to local residents riding RT for the first time.
Passengers were counted as they arrived in the downtown area.
The numbers triple what Paul McCartney's two night stay brought to downtown, when about 3,000 people, or 6,000 trips, used light rail to attend the concert. Ridership on RT during the Golden 1 Center's open house last fall saw an estimated 10,000 rides at the five key downtown stations.
Henry Li, RT General Manager/CEO, said ridership exceeded their expectations for the college basketball and St. Patrick's Day weekend.
