Drivers on certain roads in Placer County may soon see increased speed limits.
The Placer County Board of Supervisors is scheduled to vote on new speed limits, many of which are increases, at their meeting Monday morning.
The new limits are a result of an engineering and traffic survey. These surveys are done periodically to comply with the state's Vehicle Code and review current speed limits.
Phil Vassion, an associate civil engineer with the county, said the speed limits are based on 85th percentile speed, which is the speed 85 percent of drivers are driving at.
And a spike in the speed limit doesn't necessarily mean drivers will go faster.
"An increase of the speed limit doesn’t appreciably increase the overall speed of drivers," said Vassion.
If approved, the new speed limits would take effect next month.
