Police: 3 men arrested in fatal Capitol Casino shooting

Three men were arrested Monday in connection with a weekend shooting outside of a local card room that left a bystander dead, the Sacramento Police Department announced.

On November 6, a shooting broke out in the parking lot of Capitol Casino on 16th Street, north of downtown Sacramento. Sacramento police said two groups started walking off in separate directions when a man began shooting. An on-duty officer who was at the card room began to fire back, before hiding behind a car for protection.

The shooter fled, but not before hitting and innocent bystander, police said. The victim, 36-year-old Nicholas Broadway, was transported to a hospital where he later died from his injuries.

The three suspects were arrested on multiple charges including murder, attempted murder of a police officer and various weapons charges. The identities of the suspects have not been released.

ABC10 spoke to Broadway's family members following the fatal shooting. He was described as a charismatic man who was a great father to a young son. According to his friends and family, Broadway worked at the state Capitol as a supervisor in the Governor's mail room.
