21-year-old Rancho Cordova man dies from gunshot wound

A shooting in Rancho Cordova took the life of a 21-year-old man, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies were called Sunday afternoon for a victim suffering gunshot wounds in the area of Zinfandel Drive and Sunrise Boulevard, but when they arrived they discovered the victim had already been taken to a nearby hospital by car. An initial investigation determined the shooting location was actually near of Coloma Road and El Manto Drive.

The victim died from his wounds at the hospital. His identification will be released by the coroner's office after his family is notified. 

Homicide detectives are investigating the shooting, a motive for which is unknown at this time.
