Retired Woodland Police K9 Mondo passes away

The Woodland Police Department are mourning the death of former K9 officer Mondo.

According to a a Facebook post by the Woodland Police Department, Edmond Bohemia Abakan — aka Mondo — was born in the Czech Republic on June 4, 2005. Mondo was assigned to the department after weeks of training, getting partnered with Officer Brian Olson on Aug. 12, 2006.

Mondo worked as a patrol and narcotics detection K9. He was also called to assist SWAT operations numerous times. Mondo was responsible for dozens of arrests and located hundreds of pounds of illegal drugs.

Mondo retired on March 8, 2015 after nearly 10 years of service. Officer Olson cared for Mondo in retirement. 

 

This is the third Sacramento area police K-9 death in this month, following the death of Bodie and retired K9 Bandit.
