Homeless man severely beaten at Roseville park

An attack at a Roseville park Thursday left a homeless man with life-threatening injuries, police say.

Officer Dee Dee Gunther said four people have been arrested for their alleged roles in 35-year-old Josef Martin Graven's beating.

Officers were dispatched to Saugstad Park at 100 Buljan Drive just after 8 a.m. Gunther said they found Graven unconscious on the ground and another homeless man with a stab wound in his back.

Witnesses told police the wounded 24-year-old man, also homeless, had been arguing with Graven for a few days about personal property he believed Graven had taken from him. A fight erupted Thursday morning between the two men and Graven stabbed his accuser. Others then joined in the altercation, beating Graven until he lost consciousness, Gunther said.

Graven was hospitalized for life-threatening injuries.

Gunther said the man who was stabbed received medical treatment for his injury. He and three others were arrested. No names or arrest charges were released.
