Man arrested in Roseville hit-and-run crash

A man was arrested in connection to a hit-and-run crash that injured a bicyclist early Saturday morning.

The bicyclist, a 24-year-old Roseville man, was taken to the hospital to get treatment for critical injuries. He was found lying in the gutter on southbound Foothills Boulevard, between Marcia Way and McAnally Drive, by witnesses at around 2:30 a.m., Roseville Police Department spokesperson Dee Dee Gunther said.

Witnesses told police the bicyclist was riding against traffic when he was hit by a 2001 Ford pickup traveling southbound on Foothills Boulevard.

"I'm just sad that I hope he made it. I wish I would have called [police] 10 minutes earlier, but you never know until you walk outside and see what actually happens," Witness Darryl Hughart said

Gunther said the driver kept driving after the crash.

Police were able to track down the driver of the pickup truck, Alan Ryan Cassell, 24, at his Roseville home. Hughart said Cassell's friend later came back to the crash scene and admitted to police they were drinking and that his friend was driving.

Gunther said Cassell was booked into Placer County Jail for felony hit and run and causing injury while driving under the influence. His bail was set at $50,000.
