Baby left at Sacramento truck stop, mother arrested

SACRAMENTO – A mother was arrested Sunday after deputies say she left her baby at a truck stop on the 2800 block of El Centro Road.

Sacramento County sheriff's spokesperson Lisa Bowman said an employee at the truck stop contacted the sheriff's department at 5:20 p.m. to report a baby had been left in a carrier on the sidewalk.

Responding deputies found truck stop employees caring for the 6-month-old girl.

Witnesses told deputies they had seen a man and a woman who had been with the baby go separate ways about 45 minutes prior to the deputies' arrival.

The girl was transported to UC Davis Medical Center to be medically evaluated.

Approximately 90 minutes later, the baby's mother, 36-year-old Christina Reed, returned to the scene, was questioned by deputies and arrested for felony child endangerment, Bowman said.

The father of the girl is being sought for questioning.

The child was placed in protective custody with Child Protective Services. Anyone having information related to this incident is asked to contact the Sheriff's Child Abuse Bureau at (916) 874-5115.
