CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Sacramento-area garage theft

Two lessons here:

You can't leave your garage door open - even just half a foot because that doesn't deter burglars.

And - security cameras are all over the place: street corners, businesses and homes. Criminals should remember this.

The story: the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department posted this YouTube video on Tuesday of a man stealing items from a home's garage at 11 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, according to the time stamp. The garage door had been left open 6 to 8 inches at the bottom.

The man was described as white, 30 to 35 years old, 6 feet to 6 feet 2 inches tall with a medium build. His light-colored hair was worn short. In the theft, he is seen wearing a light-colored hooded sweatshirt with a California state bear emblem on the front, light-blue jean shorts and dark tennis shoes.

If you recognize the man, you're asked to call the sheriff's department at (916) 874-5115.
