Sacramento passport program offers rewards for beer lovers

You might be trying a few new breweries or new brews at Sacramento restaurants. However, before you take your next sip you might want to bring your passport. (Mar. 7, 2017)

A new passport program highlights more than 50 breweries in the Sacramento region.

It started off as an idea and thousands of dollars were raised through a Kickstarter to get it up and running.

"This summer I thought this would be a fun way to connect people with that map and it naturally led itself to a passport program via Kickstarter campaign," said Aaron O'Callaghan, creator of Sacramento Beer Frontier passport.

People who purchase the passport can get rewards for visiting a certain amount of breweries.

"I think the most difficult part was getting all 52 folks involved in it," said O'Callaghan. "This isn't something breweries had to participate in and so I wanted it to be an all inclusive project."

You can purchase the passports at Taylor's Market on Freeport Blvd. in Sacramento and Final Gravity in Roseville and Auburn. You can also buy the passports online.

"I think it draws people to try all the breweries in the area for sure," said Michael Barker, Sactown Brewery. "It brings you all around and try something different that you weren't gonna do."

Sacramento Beer Week runs from March 2 to 12.
