Demarcus Cousins offers to pay for murdered football player's funeral

Sacramento Kings' All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins will pay for funeral expenses for Grant Union High School senior football player Jaulon Clavo, who was shot and killed while driving to a team meeting on Friday.

Cousins wanted his donation to remain anonymous, but Sacramento City Council member Rick Jennings announced it at a candlelight vigil on Saturday night.

Frequently spotted attending local high school sporting events, Cousins was often seen roaming the sidelines during Grant Pacer football games.

Clavo was shot while driving a car with four other football players to a team meeting when a suspect, or suspects, opened fire on their car at Mabel Street and Silver Eagle Road. Two of the players in the car were hit, including driver Jaulon Clavo who later died, and Malik Johnson. Johnson was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.

Cousins has a history of donating to local inner-city high schools. Last June, he purchased new LED scoreboards for Sacramento High School's gym.
