Firefighters knock down grass fire near Cal Expo

Update at 4:45 p.m.:

At least 30 acres were burned by a grass fire near Cal Expo Saturday afternoon, Sacramento City Fire said. The cause of the fire is unknown.

Update at 3:15 p.m.:

Firefighters have knocked down the fire near Cal Expo, Sacramento City Fire tweeted. Crews are working on mopping up the area and hot spots.

Update at 2:55 p.m.:

Sacramento City Fire tweeted crews continue to contain the fire and "progress is being made on most flanks."

Update at 2:25 p.m.:

An additional five engines have been requested to respond to the grass fire, Sacramento City Fire tweeted.

Update at 2:15 p.m.:

"A combination of ground operations made up engines, dozer work and supported by air drops are working to contain the fire," Sacramento City Fire tweeted.

Original Story posted around 2:05 p.m.:

Firefighters are battling a grass fire along the American River Parkway near Cal Expo Saturday afternoon.

The fire is near Exposition Boulevard and Tribute Road.

The Sacramento City Fire Department tweeted officials requested assistance from a helicopter, bulldozer and five more engines.
