Man dies after officer-involved shooting in Carmichael

One man is dead after officers applied non-lethal force because the man was stabbing himself in the neck (Nov. 24, 2016)

Sacramento officers were called to a 7-Eleven in Carmichael on Thursday after a man was acting erratically.

The teenage man called police himself and began stabbing his neck several times when authorities arrived at the scene, according to a Sacramento County Sheriff's Department spokesperson.

Deputies tried sopping the teen by shooting him with "non-lethal force," but he continued to stab himself. Deputies then shot the teen with a single bullet and gained control of the man, who suffered from severe stab wounds.

The man died at the scene on the corner of Walnut and Marconi avenues.

No officers were hurt in the incident and the department is trying to determine whether he died because of the officer's force -- or because of his self-inflicted stab wounds.

This is a developing story.
