Pregnant woman recovering after CHP involved car accident

An eight-month-pregnant woman is recovering in the hospital following a car crash with a California Highway Patrol vehicle on Oct. 12.

Amy Cooper is 35 weeks pregnant and is currently recovering from the crash in the Trauma Nursing Unit at the University of California Davis Hospital in Sacramento, according to a GoFundMe, organized by Cooper’s brother Benjamin.

The account was established to help Amy and her boyfriend Adam Leonard, who also suffered injuries in the crash, pay for medical expenses.

The crash happened around 4:30 a.m. on October 12 at the intersection of Winding Way and Manzanita Avenue in Carmichael.

Leonard was driving a white station wagon with Cooper in the passenger seat when their vehicle collided with an CHP patrol vehicle with two officers inside.

CHP initially reported that only one person was in the white station wagon, but official reports have been modified to include both.

CHP Officer Chad Hertzel said the driver was mistaken as a witness because he was out of the vehicle and walking before emergency personnel arrived.
