Standoff at Sacramento apartment complex over, suspect in custody

An hours-long standoff in a Sacramento apartment complex is over after police responded to shots fired Saturday around 5:30 a.m.

James Edward Duncan, 26, had barricaded himself with two kids. ages 3 and 5, in an apartment complex on the 100 block of Clauss Court near Lawrence Drive and Stockton Boulevard, according to police.

Nearby apartment complexes were evacuated.

Duncan was arrested for felony child endangerment and resisting arrest. Officers reported finding a replica gun inside the apartment.

Both children were uninjured and taken into protective custody, said a police spokesperson.

The area was cleared and nearby businesses including the Kmart on Stockton Boulevard, reopened.
