String of 'suspicious' fires trouble Sacramento firefighters

SACRAMENTO – The Sacramento Fire Department is warning residents to be on the lookout following a rash of suspicious fires over the past few weeks.

Sacramento City Fire spokesman Roberto Padilla said crews have responded to about a half-dozen fires of a suspicious nature recently. The fires generally broke out in the middle of the night in dumpsters or outside detached outbuildings in the area of Folsom Blvd. between 52nd and 55th streets.

On the nights in question, two to three fires occurred, Padilla said.

Padilla said a home on 55th St. caught fire twice due to these fires.

Anyone with information on the fires or who notices suspicious activity was encouraged to call 911 or 311 immediately.
