A report through Yardi Matrix states that Sacramento is the fastest growing rental market in the nation.
The median rent in Sacramento, according to Zillow, reached close to $1,700 in September and that number is expected to only go up.
We took a look at cheaper apartments within 20 miles of Sacramento.
I found one online in Carmichael off of El Camino Avenue starting at $795.
However there were very few apartments in that price range, so I went on Craigslist to look at what's available close to $1,000.
I found an apartment complex in Rancho Cordova listed at $925 for a one-bedroom unit. The pictures look nice and the facility includes a 24-hour fitness center, pools and free tanning.
If you are able to splurge and can afford living in the heart of Sacramento, one of the newest apartments is Eviva in Midtown where studios start at $1,900.
We talked to some people who live in Midtown and asked them if the cheaper apartments would persuade them to move. Some said maybe later on but not right now.
"When I first got here, I lived there (in Rancho Cordova)," said Midtown resident Jason Thomas. "It was OK but you're away from everything."
I get it, because I'm one of them. I love being close to shops and restaurants, but I can use the money to pay off student loans, my car and even a house one day.
