Supergirl to Superstar: A school photo gone viral

Rocklin preschooler who wears costumes to school goes viral online. (Oct. 21, 2016)

On Monday, Austin Steinbach posted his 3-year-old daughter Kaylieann's class picture on Reddit.

By Friday, that photo had gone viral nationally and been featured on Huffington Post, Good Morning America, and People magazine.

The photo features Kaylieann as "Supergirl" and "Pooterman," her Superman action figure. The pre-schooler is partially deaf and can't hear the "S" sound, so that's where the name of came from.

ABC10's Frances Wang stopped Merryhill Pre-school in Rocklin to meet Kaylieann, also dressed in costume. She chose a minion, because every superhero needs a sidekick.

Kaylieann gets her love for costumes from her father, whom she always dresses up with.

"I definitely have a lot of influence on it," Austin said. "She saw daddy likes this, so she loves it as well."

Kaylieann's mother Jamie said she doesn't discriminate though.

"She had a Superman costume on, decided to put on Elsa, then a dress. A normal dress," Jamie said.

Since Kaylieann wears costumes all the time, nobody at her school was surprised when she showed up for picture day.

"Everyone says 'Cheese!' but it can be phony," said Sue Stewart, Kaylieann's principal. "With Kaylieann, what you see is what you get and that's absolutely who she is."

Somehow, Kylieann still doesn't have her Halloween costume ready just yet.
