Man arrested in 'brutal' 2012 murder of Hazel Dingman

In Stockton in 2012, there were 72 murders but one of them stood out as being more senseless and vicious than the others and that was the murder of an 84-year-old woman.

A 76-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the 2012 murder of 84-year-old Hazel Dingman.

Alvin Guy, of Las Vegas, was arrested and is being charged with murder with special circumstance, rape with a foreign object and penetration with a foreign object, Stockton police said.

San Joaquin County District Attorney Tori Verber-Salazar said the arrest was a reminder cold cases like this are often solved.

"Whether it's today, or 5 years, 10 or 20 years down the line, justice is served. Nobody has the right to do what this man did," Verber-Salazar said.

Dingman's son and daughter attended the news conference to announce the arrest.

"We want to thank the Lord God, who has given us this day," said Susan Trinchera, while holding a framed photo of her mother.

Dingman was found murdered inside her home on Downing Avenue, a secluded three-acre property.

At the time of the murder, investigators found obvious signs of trauma to her body, noting she may have been sexually assaulted.

Prosecutor Shari Adams said it was in January that improved DNA testing methods identified Guy as the suspect.   He'd been living near the victim in Stockton at the time of the murder.  He moved to Las Vegas shortly after the attack, said Stockton Police Chief Eric Jones.

Guy's first court appearance is Monday in Las Vegas. If he doesn't fight extradition to California he could be in a Stockton court just a few days later. He is a registered sex offender for a 1991 lewd acts with a minor conviction in Southern California

Despite her home being secluded, Dingman was a visible neighbor, ABC10 reported at the time.
