Man wounded after Craigslist deal goes bad in Stockton

A man was wounded when a Craigslist deal escalated into a shooting Wednesday evening in Stockton.

The victim, who was attempting to sell a gaming console, was shot in the stomach. He was taken to a nearby hospital to get treatment for critical injuries, Stockton police officer Joseph Silva said. No other information about the victim was available.

The shooting happened around 6 p.m. outside of the 24 Hour Fitness near W. Benjamin Holt Drive and Interstate 5.

Silva said the suspect stole the gaming console, shot the victim and then ran away from the scene.

The victim's girlfriend was with him at the time of the shooting, Silva said. It's unclear if she was injured during the incident.

Officers continue to investigate the scene.
