STOCKTON - Alicia Kittrell typically spends her days as a community service officer for the Stockton Police Department investigating traffic collisions. She's had anything but typical days the last couple of weeks.
Kittrell was working to find the rightful home of an 1870s headstone that was mysteriously found in Stockton.
About a week and a half ago work crews found the headstone at a construction site just east of downtown Stockton. Workers informed the Stockton Police Department.
That where's Kittrell came in. She spent many hours both on professional and private time researching genealogy sites and cemeteries trying to learn the headstone's history. Another member of one of those sites determined the headstone belonged to John McGinley, an opera buff from the Reno area.
On Monday, Kittrell returned the headstone to Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Cemetery in Reno.
Stockton police have no idea why or how the headstone ended up in their city.
